KYDEX

KYDEX® thermoplastic sheet Is manufactured from an acrylic / PVC alloy that has some very unique characteristics. Tough, nonporous, noncorrosive, chemical resistant, fire retardant and thermo formable. KYDEX® sheet has very good abrasion resistance and virtually no moisture absorption. Material is normally 48" x 96". Thickness runs from .028" to .500" thick. Roll stock is available in the thinner grades. Several different surface patterns are available.

General Information About KYDEX® Sheet

The KYDEX® name is a trademark of the Kleerdex Company for their proprietary thermoplastic. Each grade is custom suited for your particular application or performance need. KYDEX® Sheet Is manufactured by Kleerdex Company under an ISO 9002 certified quality system and has been satisfying customer needs for over 30 years. KYDEX® Sheet is high quality and specialty in nature. They typically should be considered for applications requiring any or all of the following benefits:
1.Fire Retardancy
2. High Impact Resistance
3. Rigidity
4. Superior Chemical Resistance

Thermo formability KYDEX® Sheet is typically not a cost-effective substitute for cheaper thermoplastics such as polyethylene, styrene, or cheap ABS, unless those materials are not performing satisfactorily. KYDEX® Sheet can be very competitive and effective as an alternative to painted metal, fire-retardant ABS, Noryl®, Lexan® (polycarbonate), etc. KYDEX® Sheet complies with Underwriter’s Laboratory, CSA, Building Code and / or FAA flammability requirements. Because of the high impact resistance of KYDEX® Sheet, it has a longer in service life and is very durable. The rigidity allows for a better feel and /or the ability to down gauge.

Its superior chemical resistance allows it to be used in harsh, chemically rich environments. It also makes KYDEX® Sheet extremely cleanable because harsh cleaners do not damage the texture or the color of the material. KYDEX® Sheet has excellent forming properties that result in uniform wall thicknesses and crisp detail. There are a complete range of grades, colors, sheet sizes and textures available to meet the most demanding applications.

To choose the grade of the KYDEX®Sheet that will work best for you, ask yourself a few questions:
1. What are you making?
2. What product are you using now?
3. What specifications or regulatory compliance must you meet?
4. What are your physical and visual performance requirements in sense of how is the product being used?
5. What is your economic situation?

Please take time to read the Kydex Material Data Sheets; there are hazards involved in the process of using Kydex. Stay safe, have fun, and good luck...

The site below has some very useful information’s for those that are just starting. Some people that have been doing it for a while can also benefit from reading the technical briefs. It contains information such as, cleaning solvents that should be use or those that can damage Kydex, glue that works effectively with Kydex, how to paint, how to engrave, and basics such as temperature ranges or heaters to use. It will even have techniques depending on the process used to mold it. Be aware that there are different types of Kydex. All of them have suitability for certain applications.
